Last night in LA

Hi,

It’s our last night in LA, although we’ve got most of tomorrow here too.

As planned we went to the Griffith Observatory on Saturday, up on the hills above LA. There was a lovely view across town but it was a little cloudy for photos! The observatory was good, there was a variety of sciency things there for Becky to not understand! We watched a couple of spacey shows there too, including a very cheesy demonstration of how to make your own comet.

When we got back we went to eat out in a really cheesy american diner, with jukeboxes on the table and had a greasy burger and chips and a hot fudge sundae. Becky loved it so we’ll probably go back for lunch there tomorrow. (Pete wants an oreo cookie milkshake!! - Becky)

On Sunday we went to Six Flags Magic Mountain which is a theme park just outside LA. The hostel does a shuttle run there and back. We got there when it opened, and since the weather was looking questionable it was really quiet. We queued a bit for the first ride but after that walked on nearly all of them straight away! X2 was the best one, but there were loads of really good roller coasters there. The weather turned out to be pretty good too, not too hot but the rain kept off.

Today we went on a walking tour around Beverly Hills and Bel Air to look at “celebrity” “houses”. So mostly we saw the gates and hedges of houses that may or may not belong to celebrities. We also got to go into what was apparently Snoop Dogg’s back garden, but we remain less than convinced. Still it was a fun day and the tour guide was pretty funny! We saw houses belonging to: Michael Jackson, Gene Kelly, Lisa Kudrow, Nicholas Cage and Adam Brody (from the OC). We had lunch at another diner then walked down Rodeo Drive to see where the rich and famous do their shopping.

Tomorrow we have to check out in the morning, but the flight to Fiji (11 hours plus an extra day!) isn’t until the evening. Will probably just spend the day doing some of the local touristy bits round Hollywood.
